Can Cannabis Help with Weight Management?

It is a common fact that exposure to Cannabis may increase one’s appetite (aka The Munchies). This fact led a group of scientists to conduct a study in 2012 for “the role of the Endocannabinoid System in the regulation of obesity and associated metabolic syndrome”. It was discovered that obesity is much lower in Cannabis users compared to non-users (difference still present after adjusting for variables such as sex and age). In this study, it was proposed that this effect is directly related to the exposure of THC (the psychoactive cannabinoid present in the marijuana plant). For this reason, the study proposes the hypothesis that THC or a THC/CBD combination may aid in weight loss and may be used as a therapeutic treatment of obesity and what comes with it. While more research is still needed to back up these theories, studies also have shown that cannabinoids and cannabinoid therapy, as the use of CBD, may help to lower blood sugar levels, and may even prevent type II diabetes.

Could Hemp Seed Oil Help with Weight Management?

Hemp seed oil is high in Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) which are necessary for fighting heart disease and contains important nutrients that can help with healthy weight management. Hemp Seed Oil may also increase metabolism. Hemp seed oil is also a source of GLA (Gamma Linoleic Acid).  A 2010 study shows that GLA can help in maintaining a healthy weight and prevent regaining weight.
